Meet the Trainers

Ed Dennehy


Ed Dennehy is the Director of Safety Training at Fishing Partnership. He is a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and was the President/CEO of New Directions Southcoast, Inc. where he coordinated the development of the Commercial Fishermen Safety Training Program.

Luis Catala


Luis Catala is a U. S. Coast Guard veteran and the Safety Training Program Coordinator at Fishing Partnership with responsibility for coordinating, planning and continually reviewing and improving the program.

Butch Chagnon

Butch has been with the Somerset Fire Department for more than 30 years and has over 40 years experience teaching CPR and first aid.

Christopher Crowther, RN, BSN

Chris is the owner of Certified Rescue Courses, which provides on-site CPR, AED and First Aid training throughout southern New England to groups of all sizes.  He had worked as an emergency room RN for over 15 years before getting into safety training.  Chris can be reached at 508-992-0930.

Dana Collyer

Dana is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and a certified medical first respondent. He spent seven years with the Mattapoisett Fire Department where he trained personnel in shipboard fire fighting, boat handling and oil recovery. Dana currently works for Marine Safety Consultants, Inc. and has received accreditation from the American Boat and Yacht Council.

David Blaney

Captain David Blaney is a retired commercial fisherman and merchant mariner with a degree in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island. He has been a USCG Certified Fishing Vessel Safety Expert since 1996, and Director of Blaney Marine Safety’s fishing vessel safety training and safety inspection program.

Dean Hostetler

Dean is a maritime industry environmental compliance, safety, survival, and emergency response management specialist. He graduated from the Maine Maritime Academy in 1977 with a degree in nautical science, and holds a U.S. Coast Guard 1600 ton master’s and an unlimited oceans mate’s license. He also is a certified ISM lead auditor.

Fred Mattera

Fred is the Owner/Marine Safety Instructor of North East Safety Training Co. He is also President of the “Point Club,” a mutual insurance club for commercial fishermen and a Director for Sunderland Marine Insurance Co. Fred is a recipient of National Fisherman’s Highliner award and has received several Coast Guard Commendations for assisting in the rescue of fishing vessels and crews at sea.

Jacob Cabral

Jacob Cabral is employed by Life Raft & Survival Equipment, Inc. (LRSE) as a safety consultant.  He is an AMSEA certified Marine Safety Instructor and has trained a wide variety of mariners, from fishermen to members of the National Marine Fisheries Observer Program to offshore wind farm employees.

Mark A. Bisnette

Mark is an associate with Marine Safety Consultants. He’s a retired Coast Guard Officer with more than 25 years’ experience in virtually all aspects of maritime safety and security. As an instructor at the Coast Guard Officer Candidate and Marine Safety schools, Mark has trained hundreds of marine safety professionals. He has served as a marine inspector, casualty investigator and environmental response officer in Southeastern New England/RI, New York, Boston and Hampton Roads.

Russell Kingman

Russell is from Cape Cod, Massachusetts and has worked  as a weir fisherman, an offshore lobsterman, and a commercial shellfish harvester. He completed the Marine Safety Instructor Training with the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association in  2018, and is a Coast Guard-certified fishing vessel safety trainer with the Fishing Partnership.


Shannon Eldredge

Shannon owns & operates a commercial weir fishing business out of Stage Harbor in Chatham, Massachusetts and has been fishing and shellfishing commercially since 2001. She completed the Marine Safety Instructor Training with the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association in February 2018 and has been a Coast Guard-certified fishing vessel safety trainer with Fishing Partnership Support Services ever since. She is also a Community Health Navigator, working alongside her sister, Morgan in the Chatham office of FPSS.

Ted Williams

Ted has over 30 years’ experience working in the maritime industry and is currently Marine Safety Coordinator at Hercules SLR. He is an AMSEA Certified Marine Safety Instructor and has been providing safety training to New England fishermen for over 10 years.
