ABOUT SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER
Substance use disorder [SUD] is a disease that affects a personās brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medication. Substances such as alcohol, marijuana, opioids and nicotine also are considered drugs. When you suffer from substance use disorder, you may continue using the drug despite the harm it causes. At the Oceans of Recovery meeting, fishermen that have successfully found freedom from harmful substances share stories and offer support and conversation for overcoming SUD. Each weekās session can vary, periodically featured speakers and professionals join the conversation to offer strategies and resources for fishermen facing SUD.
