Fishing Vessel Stability Workshop - Gloucester, MA

  • Location: USCG Station, 17 Harbor Loop, Gloucester, Massachusetts, 01930
  • Date: February 14, 2020
  • Time: 10:00am - 04:00pm

GET TRAINED IN VESSEL STABILITY

Between 2010 – 2014, five fishermen on the East Coast lost their lives on unstable or flooding vessels. Our Vessel Stability Awareness workshop prepares attendees to respond to these situations by incorporating practical information with hands-on training. Attendees will review case studies of actual fishing vessel accidents caused by inattention and other unsafe practices. Though larger vessels with multiple compartments are what first comes to mind when thinking of stability, the principles are applicable to ALL vessels, especially for flooding control and prevention.

This workshop provides practical information and hands-on training on vessel stability and emergency responses to flooding problems which cause many casualties. It is oriented toward the commercial fishing environment and is designed to meet future training requirements for commercial fishermen.

Topics covered include:

  • Requirements & Responsibilities
  • Stability Terminology
  • Stability Principles & the Stability Curve
  • Operational Considerations
  • Understanding Stability Reports
  • Flooding Control & Prevention

For more information or to register, please contact Nina Groppo or Maria Carpenter at (978) 282-4847 or register below.
